we'll walk through this world together.

I still have yet to see Black Swan. In anticipation, here's one of my all-time favorite Natalie Portman roles-- quirky way before Garden State. (She's not the greatest actress, in my opinion, but she sure is pretty.)

updates

So, lots-- and nothing at the same time-- has been happening this December, which is why I haven't posted in a while. I know that doesn't really make sense, but it's true. Since grad school's let out for winter break, all I've really done is work, read Flannery O'Connor biographies, sleep, eat pumpkin everything, drink tons of sweet tea, and re-watch a whole lot of Futurama on Netflix.

It's weird that Christmas is over. It sort of just came and went, no? I did get to decorate J's mom's house and wrap her presents to J's nieces while watching Home Alone, so that was nice and holiday-filled. We also painted her garage door and his sisters' new place. I like to paint, by the by.

Aside from that, I went on a vegas vacation last week, which J and his sisters and cousins do every year. The weather was miserable but I got to wear some coats and scarves and mittens and gloves, so I was happy for the most part. They opened up the hugest H&M out there so we went to peruse for a bit as well. We also ventured to the cutest little bar in Old Town Vegas called the Griffin. It was probably the best part about the trip. I'm not a big Vegas person in the least. Not a big drinker or gambler. I like the buffets and shows though. I still have yet to see Cirque du Soliel's Love. (I'm a Beatles fan, and I like anything to do with dancing; I took ballet, hip hop, and jazz.. Oh and tango!)

So, since it's been so long with an actual outfit/fashion related post... Here's a smorgasbord of pictures for you! Most of them are bad quality, sorry!

At the Griffin. This was the night we drove into Vegas from southern CA, and I'm wearing my broken non-up to date prescription glasses, a striped top from Anthro, and a snood scarf from H&M that I like using as a hood on the rainy streets of Vegas. Leather UO bag.

Shopping. This is my favorite outfit of late, and probably the one I'll wear to the Dressember festivities on Thursday. Too bad it's so blurry. (I like how one of my legs looks bloated from the reflective surface outside Dior. J's giant head is great here, too). It's a work outfit I put together (I work at American Apparel) and now I can't get enough of it. It's the creme silky round collar top, the black tank dress, and bordeaux bamboo tights. The camel wool coat is from Asos.com. Pale pink snood from H&M, lace up ankle boots from Etsy, leather bag from Urban Outfitters three years ago.

AZN-ing out. This is also an American Apparel outfit. We planned to go to a club, but J hates clubs, so we decided to go out and wander and be silly, while his cousins and sister braved Lavo. Lace Chiffon dress in black, basic bodysuit in black, suede skinny belt in bordeaux. Black sheer polka dot ankle socks from J. Crew.

Losing seven dollars at the Wheel of Fortune slots. I dominate at the actual game show, though!

More silly after some Shirley Temples. :)

And then! Day before Christmas, Erin from Calivintage comes into my store. I nerd out and tell my coworkers who she is, and we end up taking pictures with her.

On Christmas Eve we went to J's mom's for a gift exchange and yummy tamales and a talent show that J's brother won. Then Christmas day was spent at his aunt's where we ate a whole lot, played Kinect for the XBox 360 and board games galore. I hope your guys' holidays were wonderful as well!

I should be finishing off the final revision of my Buster Keaton short story-- and I am! I swear!-- but I'm taking a break to post these songs I recorded three years ago with my friend Ray. Enjoy. I plan on doing more soon. And if you want more, there's some video on YouTube of me and my friend Austin doing a cover of "Let's Duet" from the movie Walk Hard.

in Gothenburg we don't have VIP lines

Hey my loves! I'm feeling a lot better now, and you guys get to benefit from it. For the holidays (until the very end of December), I've decided to waive shipping for U.S. Etsy shoppers. For international, you guys get the normal U.S. shipping. :) So get shopping please! HoneyBee Vintage. I'll be adding new stuff once finals week is over.

.love.

And, because J is so nice and wonderful and always puts up with me::

AND...

I love Kirsten Dunst, even though so many people seem not to like her. Interview with a Vampire, Virgin Suicides, Jumanji (heh)... and she and her wardrobe are the only good things about the movie Elizabethtown (besides Alec Baldwin). She's kind of-- indirectly-- one of my style icons, ever since chrissstttiiine told me we dress alike. :) So here is a video dedicated to her because I love her (she's finally coming back on the scene!) and Jens Lekman... It's not even creepy that he kinda is stalking her in the song, because it's Jens. :) Apparently they actually were in Gothenburg at the same time, so maybe there's some truth to this funny little anecdotal song...

turn the music up, and keep your mouth shut

I had a bust of a night last night, wherein I made J drive us out into the stressful streets of LA, namely Sunset Blvd on a Saturday night at 10pm to go see Jens Lekman at Skybar for free. Too bad he went on at 9. Sadface. So bummed out. So we walked, got propositioned on the street, and then turned home to eat McDonalds for the second time that day and then had a hot restless and uncomfortable sleep.

But, J has assured me that we will catch Jens at some other time in the future (he's already seen him before).

(edit:: the embed doesn't work but click on the link. it's Jens doing Black Cab all low-fi in a black cab! :) I think I posted it up before and it worked. I'm gonna look through old posts. I'm pretty sure I've done like 100 Jens posts... The Black Cab Sessions is an awesome site, by the by. Other awesome artists like Au Revoir Simone and St. Vincent participated in it)

lazy lazy

I know, I know, I haven't done any posts for the 30 for 30, but it's just a super stressful busy time right now, working on three short stories for my first collection, holiday season at work (retail at American Apparel), and being lazy with any free time I do have. I'll try to catch up, but it's more than half over! Just know that I'm keeping the deal and I haven't bought anything new the whole time. I've been sticking to the items on my list, I promise. I'll at least do some highlight outfits for sure, when I get the time.

For now, enjoy this.

My real-life friend from my days in Orange County and blogger/youtube fashion sensation, Christine, has been a pal and plugged my blog and Etsy shop on her YouTube channel here. She does outfit videos, hair and makeup tips, the works. Right now she does these uniform videos where one key piece rolls over from the outfit before, sort of in keeping with the 30 for 30, in that it helps when you're on a tight budget. Check the video for Uniform #7 down below, inspired by yours truly. :)

shop stuff and sling shots

The little stinker above is J's mom's french bulldog Elijah Blue. He's just about to sneeze and J was quick enough to catch this funny little guy's funny little face. :)

I added some new items to the shop, HoneyBee Vintage; a dress, shoes, some tops, pants... (True to form, however, I did not have time this week to chronicle my 30 for 30 outfits this first week. I promise next week I will, and that I have been staying true to the deal! You have my word. :) ) There's more that I don't have time to add just yet but check right now and see the cute new stuff. The rest will be up tonight I think. Or tomorrow early.

edinburgh

So this is where I'm planning to put all my money into. It's a month long study abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland Summer 2011. Writing workshops, castles, and lots of green. Trees and hills, I mean. I won't have any money after I pay for this.

Edinburgh 2011

It's a worthy endeavor, if you want to help, you can do so by going to my Etsy shop and buying some of my inventory! I'll be putting a bunch of listings up tomorrow for sure. (It's a new store and I just made my third sale yesterday... And it's still really exciting.) :) Check it out!

navy and tan and red!

Why, Ramona West? Every time I'm sure I can pull off saving and not buying anything new, you restock your inventory. Thanks a lot! Check out the new additions here. Here are my most coveted pieces...

But the treasure I really want from Ramona West's shop is this here lovely, which is why I had to post two different views. Love love love.

peter pan collars abound!

Okay, I know I'm late on this but here are my 30 for 30 items! I'm excited. Yesterday I had work so I couldn't participate on the first day, but today will be day one of my challenge. I decided I'll take a picture of my outfits every day but only post them weekly. So you'll get to see a whole week at once! :) Anyway, on to the list...

9 tops: (American Apparel ivory blouse, Urban Outfitters creme lace top, thrifted brown gingham crop, J.Crew navy dot blouse, Lark and Wolff red plaid top, Erin Fetherston for Target creme blouse with black peter pan collar!, Urban Outfitters black and white stripe blouse, American Apparel grey triblend shirt, Anthropologie navy/rust stripe top)
5 sweaters: (Urban Outfitters black strong shoulder cardigan, J.Crew plaid panel cardigan, UO creme crochet peter pan collar cardigan, thrifted grey oversized cardigan, Anthropologie navy/white stripe cardigan)

6 dresses: (Anthropologie black/multi print, UO red bow print, thrifted green dot print, Anthro green/black print, Alexa Chung for Madewell white/black dot print, Alexa Chung for Madewell black peter pan collar dress)
4 skirts/shorts: (thrifted tan dot skirt--might be traded out, UO flower print skirt, UO pale petal pleated skirt, J.Crew brown corduroy shorts)

3 pants: (J.Crew dark tan corduroy pants, American Apparel black high waist pants, American Apparel brick red high waist pleated trousers)
3 shoes: (Kimchi Blue sand t-straps, Kimchi Blue black heels, thrifted brown fringe wingtip loafers)

As you can tell, it's primarily dark colors and prints and peter pan collars and chunky knits, but I'll be sprucing it up with bright accessories and such. I'm thinking of switching some stuff out since some of my clothes are at my old place still, like a skirt I was planning to include in the challenge. I'm particularly proud of my coats but I probably won't get much chance to wear them in southern California. We'll see!

i'm with coco!

Conan O'Brien Etsy Treasury!!

For those that don't know, I love coco! J and I went to see him-- when he was still on the Tonight Show-- and got front row seats behind Andy Richter and got the shake hands with both at the end of the night! This picture is from the episode, captured from hulu. You can see us in the crowd off to Conan's left. :)

His new show on TBS starts this week! Too bad Max Weinberg isn't signed up to join with the old Conan band, but Andy is. Can't wait!

cowboy up

Today we had our 10 year reunion for Cajon High School. Yes, I graduated in 2000. Yes, that makes me 28. Yikes. It was an informal one at the park near my house. Fun times with people I've only so far kept in touch with through facebook. We had a bbq and played silly games, including one where we had to name songs that were popular during our senior year. This has prompted me to make a high school playlist (not consisting of songs that were played at the reunion; i.e. the Thong Song). I won one of the raffle prizes so I got some gift certificates to this awesome Mexican restaurant we used to always go to during lunch in high school and some other cute stuff. Here's a picture of me with the other winners.

Some of our teachers showed up (one of which is married to my classmate, Cara). In this picture are Mr. and Mrs. Syphus (my English teachers) and Mr. Cech (my Theory of Knowledge teacher) in an amazing denim ensemble, along with my classmate Josh on the very left.

And then Clair and me, voted by our friend Josh as the ones who most look the same after ten years.

New vintage dress from the Tailor's Stories on Etsy! Stinkin' cute, but it needs some alterations. I just got it in the mail a few days ago and was really excited about it so I used it today at my reunion. :)

(It's part of my 30 for 30, which I still need to post up. Tomorrow for sure.)

challenge

So I'm going to be starting the 30-for-30 challenge from Kendi Everyday. You can find out the rules on her blog here. Basically, it's to help you work with what you've got-- and forgotten-- in your closet, to make outfits that will last for a month, so as to help you with your binge-shopping. I'm really excited for this because I need to stop spending my money on clothes.

It's not as hard as it sounds since coats and accessories aren't included in the item count. I'll be posting my outfits on here hopefully. I do tend to get real lazy. If not every day, I'll do a weekly roundup. Actually, that sounds more doable. Of course, since I work at American Apparel, my work outfits won't count (although some work clothes will be part of the 30, like my high waist zip pants and pleated trousers). Y'all should get in on this, too!

Also, I don't know if I told you, but I moved into a super cute house in Redlands and am still in the process of getting situated. The only thing done is the little cupboard thingy in my bathroom. Here are some pictures.

i'll never find another you

Two new additions to the Etsy shop, HoneyBee Vintage. :) Hastily put together because my camera man is in class. :) But I figured I should put something up since I haven't in so long. I'll probably revamp all my listings when I have the time. In the meantime. . . Pastels in fall? Yes, please.
