write about love

Two posts in one day!

I had to write a post about my crush of about a year now (ever since An Education). Carey Mulligan. I'm not embarrassed to say that I like Shia LaBeouf either, and I think they make a cute-- albeit random-- couple. And here is a little taste of her musical chops as well, singing guest vocals on Belle and Sebastian's single from their new album with the same title "Write About Love". (I heard she's in talks to play Eliza Doolittle in the My Fair Lady remake. Good choice, I think.)

Belle & Sebastian - Write About Love

friday thrift day

I am in la-la-love with this little fisherman sweater from a photo on the Sartorialist blog. It's perfect, but it's a boy's crewcuts sweater from J. Crew that's on sale and sold out. Isn't it super cute? I'm hoping I can find something like it at a thrift store in the kids section. Wish me luck!

An uber expensive alternative with be this little number from Alexa Chung's line for $138, but it's not even as cute!

I'm going to spend the day in Claremont today. It's the only honest to goodness college town around; it actually has the highest concentration of colleges in the entire country-- so it's got this cute sort of quaint locale with tree-lined streets and bookshops and record stores and cafes and ice cream parlors and record stores (I go to Rhino Records out there for Record Store Day every year)... and thrift stores! :) I just heard recently from someone that they aren't even allowed to have bars there, so you have to go to the bars in the restaurants (to get around that loophole). I'm not a big drinker so that's kind of ideal. There's only thrift store in particular that always has cute things, and I just got paid today so. . . watch out.

i'll give you anything everything if you want

Yarn Owl - Bicycle

I bought a vintage Raleigh bicycle off Craigslist the other day! I've been looking for a Raleigh Superbe circa 1973(ish) for about a year now and it doesn't look like it's happening, but I got a Raleigh Sprite from around the same year for $120! The bike's a little beat up, but she just needs a little lovin' and she'll be good as new. I love the off-white color, but it does need a new coat of paint. I'm hoping to find a brown Brooks saddle seat on the cheap, but we'll see. Also, the brakes need work. She's gonna be a beaut once she's all spruced and tuned. I'm excited!! I'll keep you all updated on the final product.

bigger than love

Sorry about yesterday, friends. Was just in a funk. Here's hoping today is (and the following are) better than the last.

think about your troubles

Today was one of those no good, horrible days that are no good and horrible for no reason whatsoever. I think those are the worst kind, because they seem so irrational, and you think to yourself: aren't other people in the world having a worse time of it for legitimate reasons? And you feel like a moron for feeling like your whole life is falling apart over nothing. I almost rammed into a guy who wouldn't let me in in front of while driving home from work on the 210 because I was so irked at everything. Like seriously considered it. I wanted to.

(Work was absolutely horrendous today by the way, and I was pretty much fed up with everything and everyone. I was hoping that J would be around when I got home so I could vent to him about how I hated everyone, and I could wallow on his shoulder and eat too many cupcakes, but he texted me that he was having family time and so here I am wallowing in the best most destructive way possible: alone. It's probably for the best, because I'd most likely just annoy him. I need to get back into yoga. I'm starting a class at the rec center this quarter with my friend Bien for sure.)

It's hard for me to actually express these feelings because I don't think they're expected of me. People think I'm never unhappy. I am, almost always. sometimes almost always. My coworker told me that too. "I can't imagine you sad. You're not allowed to be sad."

I'm of the mood where I feel like leaving everything and everyone behind and being alone and doing nothing forever. I could almost see myself quitting the CSUSB MFA program, ditching my job and picking up and leaving. It sounds wonderful. There really isn't anything to keep me here. My professor lived in Tucson and he said it's the only good part of Arizona. A quaint sort of college town, like Claremont. It would be near my parents so I wouldn't be quite so alone, but far enough so I wouldn't have to see them. If only I could leave myself behind. I'm kind of pitiful at the moment really.

It's easy for me to get antsy and want to move. I can't sit still and I can't stay in one place for too long, it seems.

A song I love and heard at work today. It made me even more miserable, but a good miserable. The kind of good miserable that only music can produce::

Tell me some good things, so I know they still exist.

everybody's talkin' at me

So today was a long and eventful day in LA. First, we went to the American Apparel factory store so I could make use of my discount on already discounted merchandise, one of the many perks about working for the company. I ended up just getting a pair of the brick red pleated pants, a really cute playsuit/romper thing (that I will post up an outfit picture of later), and a peter pan collared blouse. Good haul, if you ask me.

Then we went straight to the old abandoned Griffith Park Zoo which was the original LA Zoo before they moved to better accommodations. It was pretty great. The old lion/bear/monkey/bird cages inside the park were fun to climb through and hang around. There are picnic tables there so people there to hang out, eat lunch, take pictures, go on bike rides. There's even a merry-go-round, but it's only open on Saturday and Sunday. Afterwards, we read a little in the park; we're still going through Confederacy of Dunces. Love it. It's hilarious. And insane.

I took the opportunity to showcase my new Madewell dress, so this is an outfit post on the Betty Tea Dress. My belt is from American Apparel, and my shoes are super old Payless sandals that are falling apart, but I love them too much. Sunglasses are from Anthropologie. Sorry about the poor quality; my camera is just a point-and-shoot, even though it's a pretty good one.

Afterwards, we went to go see a documentary about singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson at the Laemmle on Sunset. I didn't know much about him going in so it was really amazing to see what he was all about and the great writing he's done and his amazing amazing voice. A really huge talent. The director and some of the other people involved were there for the screening, along with Nilsson's family. You should all check the documentary out, please.

I went to the Madewell in Century City for the opening of Alexa Chung's line. I'll post more about it later but this is the dress I didn't end up getting because I didn't have enough money. Plus, it's a lot longer when you're not ten feet tall like the model. =\ Also, it looked more creme than dusty blush colored on the website, but at the store it was much too pink for my liking. I did get some cute things (the Tennessee Velvet Dress and the Betty Tea Dress) and the free limited gift with purchase, so I'll post up a longer entry once I'm home so I can take pictures of the stuff. It was great. I even got stopped by some journalists from UCLA covering a fall fashion story. They took pictures of me and interviewed me. :)

More later, guys!
