i am trying to break your heart

So I used to have regular playlists every week-- or tried to at least-- but it slowly dwindled once lala.com went defunct. I tried making a Rainy Day Songs playlist today and it turned into this sort of sad sack progression of a (doomed) relationship? Starts off nice and ends sort of no bueno. I guess that sort of works for a rainy day playlist in terms of gloom. Oh well. These are good songs. Listen to them!

nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Snuggle weather! I love rain, and I love books, and snugs and hot chocolate (and latte art)!

I am the Snuggler! I'll snug ya back to health.

are you thinking what i'm thinking?

I had the chance to see these girls perform in OC but I couldn't make it because of my stupid master's creative writing workshop. Darn those pesky priorities. In any case, here's a testimony to their cuteness. Their music ain't half bad either. Cute, simple, adorable 60s-esque girl group.

Sorry I couldn't make it, Theresa!

special talents

Oh my goodness. I love Michelle Williams. Click here for my little spread on her from posts past. AND and Ryan Gosling; even more so now that I get to hear him play that adorably goofy song on the ukulele! I can't decide which I like better; his charmingly dorky singing voice or her dainty little impromptu dance steps. Can't wait to catch Blue Valentine. Haven't been this excited about a movie in a while. It's been getting some rave reviews at Sundance. Let's go!

p.s. Check the post below for my hundredth post and Etsy news. A couple more treasures have popped up on my Etsy shop, HoneyBee Vintage! The link is on the sidebar. Go go go!

Here are the listings I've gotten around to posting so far :)

100th post! (and opening of etsy shop)

Hello, m'dears. It's my hundredth post since I started this blog on New Years. I've had a lot of blogs before this, from xanga to livejournal, but this was the first one I started as a more public forum. Usually, my blogs are primarily for me.

I know that I haven't been much of a presence because I've been procrastinating and basically freaking out about my writers' block. The thing is that I've written plenty of published stories, but now that I'm in the MFA program working to put together a collection of short stories, I'm putting too much pressure on myself to write something that doesn't reek of student work, something that doesn't read like a workshop piece. I have three pieces due in the next two months. Wish me luck.

Now on to the post. Today J and I finally got the chance to go to the pumpkin patch we went to last year. Too bad we went kind of late so the corn maze and petting zoo were already closed. Oh well. I'll post some pictures from last year's visit in the daytime, with my short hair. Here are some pictures from tonight, first.

Candy corn fangs! Rah!

Last year, same patch.

And then an outfit shot because it was super dark at the pumpkin patch. It's candid so I look like a weirdo. But it's okay. I finally got to do an outfit post with my favorite new dress since I didn't take any full outfit pictures at the Belle & Sebastian Show. :)

Lastly, I made a pumpkin cheesecake from a recipe given to me by my older sister, Tess. I'll put up the recipe later. Here's a picture of it with the pumpkins we picked up tonight. We wanted to get some oddball-looking ones as well as some more traditional lookers. My favorites are the little white one and the green and yellow guy. I'll update with shots of our crafty pumpkins come Halloween!

Oh oh! This is a good time-- since it's my 100th post-- to let you know about my Etsy shop, HoneyBee Vintage. My name means "honey bee" so I thought it might be appropriate. There's only one listing because school has been sucking the life out of me. Tell your friends! I'll have some other things up tomorrow for sure!

a perfect day

Lou Reed - A Perfect Day

J and I tried to go to a pumpkin patch out in Corona on Friday, but it was only open on Saturdays and Sundays. We have some good ideas for decorating pumpkins which I'll share with you later once we get some o' them gourds. :) So instead of going to a pumpkin patch, we stopped by JoAnn's to get some costume making supplies. We came up short on that end too, but here are a few silly pictures with these really cute masks that I eye every Halloween.
Enjoy!

flash in the pan, and blog ideas

Hello lovies! It's been a while, and I've been very inconsistent with the structure of my blogging; no music playlists on Tuesdays, no baking entries, no outfit shots. But I promise to be more rigorous in my attempts at organization. Yesterday would have been a golden opportunity to do an outfit post since I wore my darling Tennessee Velvet dress from Madewell to the Belle and Sebastian concert that night. But I was too shy to take pictures at the Palladium in Hollywood with the hordes of people around. I'm actually shy to take my picture when there's no one around. Or ever. Must get over that.

Anyway, the concert was spectacular and Johnny and I danced up a storm towards the end when we worked up the courage, and it was totally and entirely worth it. A flash in the pan(ts). I love Belle & Sebastian, and Stuart Murdoch is so charming and adorable. Great show. Even with so many people and standing-room only general admission it was probably one of my favorite shows of the year. Or ever. :) We had made a foolhardy plan to dress up and make a date night of it, after we realized we should have done that at the fancy-pants Orpheum when we went to see Joanna Newsom play a few months ago. My toes were hurting in my Kimchi & Blue black heels. Sorry there are no full outfit shots, but here are a couple of Johnny and I, and some of the performances.

Belle & Sebastian performing "Lazy Line Painter Jane" w/opener Jenny Lewis on guest vocals. <3

Also, I've been trying to think up ways to spice up the way I do my outfit posts, and I found some inspiration at one of my most favorite of places, Anthropologie. Check out this spread from their website! I'm thinking of doing the whole drawing of the scenery and then just me in my outfit. But I need to enlist someone to do the drawing. J? :)

And finally, to round out the Anthropologie-love, here are a few things I am coveting at the moment. Plus, this model is so cute and makes me want to cut my hair short again. Anthro is my weakness any time of the year, but I think at fall/winter, it is the most uncontrollable. My sister just gave me a $100 gift card there for my birthday, and I just got the 15% birthday discount in the mail (that came in this adorable little pouch thing with my star sign on it), so watch out! Lovelovelove.

The Tyndall coat is just beautiful, and I don't normally like the whole fur thing.

And I think I just may use my gift card on this Brassica dress if it looks cute on me. I'm not sure, because I have a short, wide torso that I hate, but I'll keep you posted. Maybe with another fitting room outfit shot. :)
